Many a times, we find ourselves stuck in the Valentine’s Day gift dilemma. The little voice in our head says, “Valentine’s Day is so commercial” and “Cheesy cards and candy is so played out, what could they want?”
Ignore that voice!
Gift giving is described as a means through which individuals communicate values and they assign these values to their significant others (Cheal, 1987). Therefore, you don’t want to leave your significant other empty-handed on the most romantic holiday of the year!
Here are eight mindful gifts for a perfect Valentine’s Day.
1. Tickets to see their favorite sports team.
If your S/O is all rallied up after the super bowl and is still recovering from the sports-game high, tickets to see their favorite (or any!) sports team may be the perfect idea. March Madness is coming up and it is the perfect time to plan ahead!
3. A framed picture of the two of you.
Choose a picture that evokes good memories. Your S/O will be able to put it on their desk at work, office at home, or next to their bed. It will be sweet to wake up to the picture of the two of you.
5. Tickets to something new to both of you
Experiences that you can share together are always the best! New experiences generates great memories and enhanced connection between partners. A good activity for couples is a class on accessing your second chakra – the center for pleasure and creativity.
7. Pay for this month’s Netflix binging
Speaking of baking, what does everyone love to do while eating treats? Watch a movie or show on Netflix…offer to pay off your S/O’s monthly account! It’s thoughtful and something they’ll actually appreciate. Or if you share the same account, get an amazon gift card. You can’t go wrong with that.
2. Their favorite candy in a coffee or beer mug.
Make it so your S/O can have their favorite treat to eat and drink all in one! For instance, if they loves M&Ms, go to the store and grab valentines day colored M&Ms. You can fill up a beer mug with them! They will love the treat and gift combo.
4. Get a stylish outfit accessory!
Belts and sunglasses may seem standard, but these are the outfit staples people often forget to buy. Your S/O will love it even more because you picked it out! Your opinion matters most – duh. Needlepoint belts are especially in and if you REALLY want to go all out, you could stitch one yourself.
6. Bake something delicious!
Everyone loves food no doubt. Borrow your mom’s, a friend’s, a Pinterest recipe, or a recipe you know and love already. Your S/O will love some homemade cookies, brownies, banana bread, and everything in between. Warning, you’ll have them begging you to make more from now on!
8. A simple token of appreciation
Finally, our personal favorite, a simple handwritten and thoughtful card. According to Psychology Today, being completely open and honest with your significant other allows for a more intimate relationship as well as enhanced connectedness. They will love your kind, heart-felt words. Maybe they’ll even keep it in their drawer or wallet as a pick me up on a bad day, you never know!
