Body-based therapies are typically nonverbal (or require minimal conversation) and focus on energy and emotions stored within the body. They are shown to be effective for concerns such as trauma, anxiety, depression, stress, and more.
Body-based therapies currently offered at Viva include sensorimotor therapy, yoga, somatic experiencing, and reiki.


Yoga
Yoga brings the mind and body together to improve all aspects of wellness: physical, psychological, spiritual, etc. It incorporates posture, breathing, relaxation, and mindfulness techniques.
Yoga is an effective form of treatment for conditions such as pain, heart issues, anxiety, depression, and substance abuse.

Sensorimotor Therapy
Sensorimotor therapy looks at how psychological concerns manifest in the body. It helps individuals to regulate their responses, and/or to move out of the flight/fight/freeze response.
Sensorimotor is ideal for anyone looking to become less reactive in their responses and relationships. It is frequently used to treat trauma, anxiety, depression, anger management, and compulsive/addictive behaviors.

Somatic Experiencing
Somatic Experiencing examines our bodily responses to trauma (hyperawareness, increased heart rate, etc) and aims to shift them.
Research has shown positive results using Somatic Experiencing for the treatment of trauma and other overwhelming sensations.

Reiki
Reiki promotes physical, mental and emotional healing. Practitioners are trained to use light touch to channel energy, providing clients with deep relaxation and healing.
