Sonja (she/her) offers a combination of mindfulness-based, somatic, and cognitive therapy approaches that help clients connect with their bodies and feel grounded in the present moment. She has experience counseling adults and couples, and is currently focused on working with adults struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and trauma.
With specialized training in Transpersonal counseling, Sonja helps clients connect to their sense of purpose and meaning. She brings a trauma-informed lens, and a social justice perspective that welcomes and celebrates all identities. She also enjoys using Parts Work techniques from Gestalt and Internal Family Systems therapies to help clients accept and integrate the many different parts of themselves.

Previous Clinical Experience
Before starting at the Viva Center, Sonja was a counseling intern at Moksha Living, a holistic therapy practice in Washington, DC. She offered a range of mindfulness-based and cognitive-behavioral treatments to adults and couples facing issues including anxiety and depression, trauma, and relationship issues. She also co-facilitated a weekly workshop series focused on self-development through mindfulness and somatic awareness.
Sonja holds a Master’s Degree in Mindfulness-based Transpersonal Counseling from Naropa University. She previously earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies from Bates College, with a minor in Dance. She is also a certified Psychosynthesis Life Coach.
