Living or working in D.C. can feel like you’re always “on”; juggling demanding jobs, constant stimulation, and the pressure to succeed. But when you’re also carrying the weight of trauma, it can feel like you’re doing all of that with an invisible anchor holding you down.
At The Viva Center, we offer individual therapy, couples therapy, and group therapy in D.C. in the heart of Washington, to help you heal at the root, not just manage symptoms. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, PTSD, or the lingering impact of past experiences, you deserve care that truly meets you where you are.
What Is Trauma-Informed Therapy?
Trauma-informed therapy recognizes how past experiences, especially those that overwhelmed your ability to cope, can shape the way you think, feel, and relate to others today.
This approach is about:
- Working at your pace, with your body and brain as allies in healing
- Understanding the connection between your symptoms and your nervous system
- Creating a sense of safety and control in the therapy space

What We Help With
Our therapists in D.C. support clients through a wide range of trauma-related challenges, including:
- Childhood or developmental trauma
- PTSD and complex PTSD
- Sexual trauma or abuse
- Anxiety and panic symptoms rooted in past experiences
- Perfectionism, burnout, and chronic stress
- Relationship or attachment wounds
- Medical trauma or grief after loss
- Over-functioning and emotional numbness in high achievers
- Identity trauma and oppression-related stress (BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ affirming)
We often work with individuals who’ve “tried talk therapy” but still feel stuck. If you find your challenges hard to explain, or like they live more in your body than your words, you’re not alone. We’re here to help you reconnect with safety, clarity, and inner resilience.
How We Help
Our approach blends leading-edge, evidence-based modalities to support lasting transformation. Depending on your unique needs, your therapist may draw from:
- EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
- Brainspotting
- Somatic Approaches
- Parts Work/Internal Family Systems (IFS)
- Traditional Talk Therapy
- Mindfulness and Body-Based Techniques
We believe healing happens in relationship, with yourself and with a compassionate, skilled therapist who honors your pace. Our goal isn’t to “fix” you; it’s to walk with you as you navigate this challenging time and help you achieve the outcomes you want for yourself. We believe goals are collaboratively defined in therapy, shaped by your needs, hopes, and vision for healing.
